Terror-Australis
| Description: | Indigenous people have been using fire sustainably as a land management tool for thousands of years. In the last 200, fire has been co-opted into the land-clearing and regrowth suppression armoury.
Topsoil is thin north of lake Mungo. The low-lying salty patches consume a little more field every year.
This image shows land clearing from the point of view of one of the displaced animals. It is a composition from photographs taken in the region in August 2006.
Incidentally, as I was passing the area in the image 3 month later, wind gusts thick with dust – topsoil actually – forced me to slow right down.
